Do Rhododendrons Like Shade. Know your rhododendron before choosing a planting location. For me they are the perfect plant.
Because they do not develop seeds the energy goes directly toward producing flowers. Rhododendrons do not like central heating and seldom succeed as house plants. If i like a particular species of plant i collect a lot of them.
However if given enough shade they are also drought tolerant.
Make sure you have good drainage and do not allow compost to get too dry. The rhododendrons set the flower buds for the next year in summer. In our climate this usually occurs in july or august so plenty of water and sunlight are essential during this period. Full shade is more or less like the dense shades but it receives sunlight in particular seasons.
